Get Creative with Mark Guthrie

Wednesday, 4 September, 2019 - 14:00

Colourful cartoons, jazzy superheros and delightful collages are all on the agenda these school holidays when Mansfield Shire Council bring Australian illustrator, author and cartoonist Mark Guthrie to the Mansfield Library for a series of workshops on Tuesday 24 September.

Children and adults are welcome to enjoy the four free workshops including an Illustration and Cartooning Workshop at 10:30am; Superhero Cartooning at 11:30am; and a Collage Illustration Workshop at 2pm.  This is just one of the many guest presenters and activities Council funds at the library throughout the year.

Originally from Strathmerton, Mark Guthrie is passionate about drawing.

“I love sharing my passion for drawing with the kids” said Mr Guthrie.

"I love it because the kids are there because they want to be there. You've already sold them on the concept because they've turned up.”

“Animation took me to Sydney and Walt Disney Animation Australia. My film credits include 'An Extremely Goofy Movie', 'The Little Mermaid 2', 'Lady and the Tramp 2', 'Peter Pan - Return to Neverland', Jungle Book 2, Lion King 3 and The Three Mousketeers.”

“A lot of kids ask if they can have my job when they're older.  I tell them if they want to live on apples and potatoes, go for it."

Mark will also stick around to discuss the intricacies of his vocation during an evening session for adults starting at 5:30pm.

Illustration and Cartooning in the 21st Century, will give insights into children’s book publishing including pitching ideas, folio and imagery tips and the relevance of newspaper cartoons and cartoon strips in today’s world - with a few funny stories thrown into the mix.
