Fire Preparedness Works Travel Permit Applications Open
Monday, 4 October, 2021 - 09:00
From 6 October, Mansfield Shire property owners who live in metropolitan Melbourne will be able to apply for a travel exemption to prepare their properties for the fire season. Travel to Mansfield Shire can begin from 11 October.
Property owners can apply for up to three days to complete fire preparation works, however vacant land will only be eligible for a single day permit. Additional permits may be applied for, but not for consecutive days.
Mayor Cr Mark Holcombe said that Council was happy to support non-resident community members to prepare their properties for fire season.
“Allowing people to prepare their properties for fire season is ultimately a safety measure that creates protections for our community and minimises our risk of bushfire,” said Cr Holcombe.
“We trust our community, including those who live in metro Melbourne, to keep our Shire safe by doing the right thing and minimising movement while in the Shire.”
When travelling, any person must comply with the restrictions in the place of their primary residence.
In some cases this means the owner or the nominated representative will not be able to visit local businesses to purchase supplies. They should travel with the tools and equipment they need. The use of local contractors is strongly encouraged.
