The Essential Services Commission have approved Council’s application for a variation to the legislated 2.5% rate cap for the 2019-20 financial year with the variation allowing for the reallocation of income previously collected through its waste service charges into general rates, earning no additional income for Council.

Council applied for a higher cap of 13.94% for 2019-20 (inclusive of the minister's rate cap of 2.5%).  The reallocation will mean the increase in property rate is offset by a 37% reduction in the waste charge resulting in a minimal financial impact to the average ratepayer - between $2 - $10.

The full report on the decision on the application for a higher cap 2019-2020 for Mansfield Shire Council is available on the Essential Services Commission website at www.esc.vic.gov.au
