Emergency Relief Centre will only operate as a last resort this summer.
Tuesday, 22 December, 2020 - 15:30
Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, Mansfield Shire Council will only operate an Emergency Relief Centre over the summer months as a last resort.
Emergency services and recovery organisations are asking residents to plan to be self-sufficient and consider now where they can relocate to in an emergency, including alternative accommodation and identifying safe places for relocating animals as part of bushfire planning this year.
As far as practicable, emergency relief services, such as accommodation, food and water, psychological first aid, and financial hardship payments will be delivered remotely.
Emergency Management Victoria has advised that in the event that coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions are tightened, people are exempt from directions under the emergency provisions where it is unsafe to stay at home during an emergency.
Residents may leave their homes and move freely across Victoria if their health and safety is at risk. This includes travel to a friend or family member’s house, or alternative accommodation such as a hotel.
Acting on well-developed plans can help reduce stress during emergency evacuations.
In the event where residents cannot safely evacuate to alternative accommodation outside of the disaster area, Mansfield Shire Council can assist and provide support.
