Dr. Mark Quigley is Associate Professor of Earthquake Science at the University of Melbourne and an acclaimed geoscientist with over 100 research articles on earthquake processes around the world. He is the recipient of several prestigious international awards, one of which he received for his work on the 2010-2011 earthquakes in Christchurch.
In collaboration with the Seismology Research Centre in Melbourne and Geoscience Australia, Dr Quigley is working on the seismological, environmental, and engineering impacts of the Wednesday 22 September 2021 Magnitude 5.9 Woods Point earthquake that caused significant ground shaking and minor damage across Victoria.
Mayor Cr Mark Holcombe encouraged the community to take advantage of the opportunity.
“We were all shocked by the earthquake and it left us with a lot of questions,” said Cr Holcombe.
“This is a great opportunity to speak to one of the world’s leading experts about earthquakes in general, the earthquake that shook Mansfield this month and about the project he is working on in Mansfield Shire now.
“We’re grateful to Dr Quigley for providing this opportunity for our community to learn more about earthquakes and are excited about the Q&A on Thursday night.”
