Over 60 people registered and participated in an online community forum hosted by Mansfield Shire Council.

The online community Q&A session featured guest speaker Dr Mark Quigley, Associate Professor in Earthquake Science at the University of Melbourne.

After a scientific presentation from Dr Mark Quigley, the community asked questions that ranged from how likely another earthquake was to why dogs reacted before the tremor was felt by humans.

Mayor Cr Mark Holcombe attended the community forum.

“We’re grateful to Dr Mark Quigley and his team for their interest in the earthquake and in our Shire. We are so appreciative of the opportunity for our community to hear from the experts and get to ask questions that are on our minds after the earthquake.”

Dr Quigley explained that his team have installed seismometers in the region that will accurately measure aftershocks as they occur in the region. While the forum was running, those seismometers recorded an aftershock with a magnitude of 2.8. Community member and the youngest participant, Jess, 9 years, noted that she felt the tremor in Jamieson and prompted the experts to check their instrument recordings.

The event was recorded and can be accessed via our youtube channel.
