Council Offers Alternatives to Attending Council Meeting

In light of Coronavirus advice, Mansfield Shire Council is encouraging as many people as possible to watch tomorrow’s monthly Council meeting on Facebook livestream or listen in via Mansfield Community Radio, 99.7FM.
Mayor, Cr Marg Attley OAM said Council saw these options as enabling as many people as possible to watch or listen instead of attending in person.
“We really value the community being able to engage in matters that affect them and we are also very aware of advice from the Department of Health and Humans Services (DHHS) about the pandemic,” Cr Attley said.
“Therefore, we are asking interested people to follow the meeting on Facebook or via the radio, to reduce any potential public health risks,” she said.
“This month’s agenda addresses the application for a convenience restaurant and a separate application to amend the service station permit. Collectively, we have had more than 270 objections for both applications and requests from over 40 people to speak to the applications. This is an important part of our democracy and we felt it was equally important to provide ways for people to see this in action without having to attend in person, to protect their health and those of others.
“As a Council, we look forward to the interest via Facebook and the radio and will provide an update on decisions of all items on the agenda, after the meeting.”
Council moved the meeting to the Mansfield Performing Arts Centre to accommodate the expected numbers of people interested in attending. Cr Attley said the meeting will still be held at the Performing Arts Centre as it’s a large venue that can facilitate social distancing.
“Those people who attend in person will be asked to comply with any directions given on the night to meet current Coronavirus advice,” she said.
