People who require relief or assistance as a result of COVID-19 can, from 1 May, phone the free call number, 1800 672 243 for local support and information.
Mansfield Shire Mayor, Cr Marg Attley OAM said the Council free call number and associated email address will be staffed daily, from 9am-5pm, including weekends and operate for as long as required.
“We have allocated staff to provide this service daily. It’s a really important part of supporting our community, to provide information and to ensure those self-isolating for health or age reasons can do so.
The line will be answered by Council staff equipped to answer questions, provide advice and referrals for enquiries about food; accommodation; psychosocial support; medications; transport; internet access and/or shopping delivery services; and other locally available services.
It’s part of being an inclusive community and supporting people who are feeling a bit overwhelmed to source local information and connect to the products and services they need to get through this pandemic” Cr Attley said.
“People can be self-isolating for reasons that fit into two categories. It is mandatory to self-isolate if you have confirmed or suspected COVID-19 infection or have been in close contact with a confirmed case. Those in non-mandatory self-isolation are usually doing so due to medical risk factors, medical advice or age” she said.
“The Council staff will apply triage principles and ranging from supporting those people with the means to buy their own supplies by perhaps providing details of how to order from the supermarket and arrange home delivery to helping where access to food is an issue. Where people don’t have the means, we can work with other agencies to provide the food,” Cr Attley said.
Anyone requiring relief or information can phone Mansfield Shire Council’s Free Call Relief Number: 1800 MSC Aid (1800 672 243)
