Council Increases Its Online Engagement Capability

Coronavirus has resulted in an increased need to effectively engage online with the community and in response Mansfield Shire Council has expanded its online ‘Have Your Say’ platform.
Mansfield Mayor, Cr Marg Attley OAM said Council believes it is essential that the community is empowered to engage on issues that affect their lives, including Council decision making.
“The ‘Have Your Say’ platform is a space where the community can come together on-line and have deeper, better and wider conversations on the issues that are important to them, away from the noise and pitfalls of social media” Cr Attley said.
The existing ‘Have Your Say’ platform enabled community feedback via surveys and has now been expanded to also include engagement tools such as:
Forums: A safe and interactive space for the community to discuss and debate issues
Ideas: Virtual ‘post it notes’ to share ideas, that can be liked and commented on
Places: The ability to gather feedback and photos on a map with a simple pin drop
Q&A: A managed space to receive questions that accommodates both public and private responses
Polls: A single question to get immediate insight
“Have Your Say will assist Council by providing additional ways to engage widely with community members and is one of the many ways you can have your say and make a difference to your community,” she said.
“Council has a number of projects in the pipeline which we are excited to discuss with the community and whilst on-line engagement will not replace face-to-face, it provides us with the opportunity to continue to progress work on a number of key projects within the current coronavirus restrictions as well as potentially enabling more people to have their say.
“Current projects include a dedicated COVID19 section where you can find out what Council is doing to support the community and businesses, and engage via the ideas tool to submit an idea on what is keeping you positive and connected and the survey tool, which is taking a community pulse-check of health and wellbeing,” Cr Attley said.
Other projects open include the Waste Management Strategy, Statutory Planning Services Review and the Commercial and Industrial Land Use Strategy.
“This is all part of Council’s commitment to continue to build strong relationships with the community to ensure the decisions Council makes reflect the desires of our Mansfield Shire residents and ratepayers and I encourage you to get involved and Have Your Say,” Cr Attley said.
