If you know someone aged 12 to 18 years who already has an interest in song-writing and experience on an instrument, vocals or producing, let them know about Mansfield Shire’s Youth Services first song-writers’ camp.

With the Mansfield FReeZA team, Council will deliver the ‘Emerging Sounds’ song-writers’ and producers’ camp for youth at Merrijig Lodge over two days; 26 to 27 October. There are 20 places available.

FReeZA program officer Kylie Peel said the camp is designed specifically for 12 to18 year olds with an interest in song-writing or producing.

“We have so many talented emerging artists in Mansfield,” Ms Peel said

“This camp is an incredible opportunity for them to learn from industry professionals and build their skill levels for the future. Therefore, if you know someone who would benefit from this experience, please spread the word.

“Participants will also be given an opportunity to perform on the ‘Rock Out’ stage, as part of the Mansfield High Country Festival on Friday, 1 November 2019,” she said.

Young people taking part will join a question and answer session with industry professionals and mentors, covering topics such as creating songs, recording, approaching labels, booking venues, and future opportunities within the music industry.

‘Emerging Sounds’ will offer workshops that teach writing and performing a song within a band, creating lyrics, melodies and enhancing chords, as well as specialised training on producing, mixing, sampling and recording, from a certified Ableton trainer on software Ableton Live.

Ms Peel said applicants will need to demonstrate their existing music ability by uploading a small audio or video file of them performing an original piece of music they may have started working on. This can be lyrics, melody, or instrumentation of something they have created.

‘Emerging Sounds’ has only 20 spaces available. Applications close Monday, 23 September, so get in quick! Apply here - https://www.mansfield.vic.gov.au/events/emerging-sounds-youth-songwriting-camp
