Contribute Your Ideas For New Sporting Precinct Name

Mansfield Shire Council is seeking community input to naming the sporting precinct at the end of View Street, consisting of the new dual court stadium, dual outdoor multi-purpose courts and existing playing fields.
Mayor, Cr Marg Attley OAM said construction of the new dual court indoor stadium and outdoor multi-purpose courts, along with the existing playing field facilities at the end of View Street, consolidates several facilities into an exciting new precinct for Mansfield Shire.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to be involved and we invite people with an interest or good idea for the name to consider submitting a proposal,” Cr Attley said.
“We acknowledge the significance and ownership the community has of its local facilities. Sporting facilities are often the heart of these communities, providing opportunities for people to be physically active and socialise, so we know community members will have ideas for the name,” she said.
“We are bound by the Naming rules for places in Victoria and follow advice of the Office of Geographic Names (OGN) to make sure the name is appropriate and compliant with the rules,” she said.
The Naming rules set out step-by-step information on naming and are available on the ‘Have Your Say’ section of the website. A hard copy is also available at reception at the municipal office.
“It is important that the names proposed follow the naming rules to ensure that the proposal is eligible. I encourage you to have a detailed read of these rules, prior to making a submission” she said.
“Officially naming the precinct is essential for identifying a location in emergencies as well as for the delivery of goods and services,” Cr Attley said.
