| Rural Skills Connect Project | |
The Rural Skills Connect – Southern Hume initiative is a project aimed at addressing the vital skills gaps in the region. By utilising the transferable skills of the ‘on farm’ worker, owners and managers, the project aims to match suitably trained, qualified and job-ready candidates with existing job vacancies.
Working in partnership with Regional Development Victoria, Benalla Rural City, Mansfield Shire Council, Murrindindi Shire Council and Strathbogie Shire Council have appointed a project manager to undertake the Rural Skills Connect Program. Deb Shaddock will work across the four municipalities to engage with industry and potential employees to participate in the program.
The aim is to match skilled rural farming workers, owners and operators who have skills to meet the current economic needs required for regional economic growth. | |
| Benefits for industry include: | |
 | Access to a job-ready and experienced local labour pool | | Transitional training support; and | | An opportunity to assist the surrounding rural community in a tangible way. |
|
|
| Benefits to the farming sector include rural farming workers, owners and operators, having: | |
 | An opportunity to participate in a detailed, individualised skill assessment | | Access to highly relevant, targeted training opportunities; and | | Access to flexible employment opportunities that seek to balance on and off-farm employment options. |
|
|
| A wide range of skills important to regional industry in the region will be focused on during the project. Such industries include (but not restricted to): | |
 | Welding | | Mechanical/ Machinery Operation | | Transport | | Horticultural | | Hospitality; and | | Aged Care |
