| Council provides free sharps containers to the general public so as to ensure needles and syringes are not disposed of with domestic garbage. The approved containers come in a variety of sizes to suit the needs of the public and can be returned once full for disposal by an EPA licensed service provider.
The sharps containers and disposal services is available to all non commercial generators of needles and syringes.
Council also provides an on-call service for the collection of any discarded needles and syringes that may be found in the public area of the Shire. Whilst the illicit drug use within the Municipality is not significant, it is acknowledged. To enable the public to correctly dispose of their waste material, Council has also undertaken to provide needle and syringe disposal facilities at all Council operated public toilet facilities.

The Mansfield District Hospital also operates a needle exchange facility. They are located at the intersection of Malcolm Street and Highett Street Mansfield. Enter through the emergency/casualty area.
