Woods Point and Surrounding District Community Safety Plan
Council sought comment on the development of the “Woods Point Community Safety Plan” prior to it's adoption in October 2007.
A local steering committee at Woods Point has been established to review progress with this ‘all hazard’ sub plan.
This sub plan sits behind Council’s Municipal Emergency Management Plan and is seen as a necessity given the remoteness of the area and the fact that the Woods Point area and the local population will need to respond to situations as they arise and probably without outside assistance for some time.
It is worth noting that Council has been identified at the Royal Commission as the only
municipality to have a
formally designated fire refuge, located
at Woods Point, in accordance with the "Woods Point and Surrounding
District Community Safety Plan".
Note however that the entry to the fire refuge has had significant works undertaken since the photo within the plan was taken - to ensure its integrity, and with the assistance from the Department of Sustainablity and Environment (DSE), the access track past the police station has been upgraded.
This current version has been updated based on lessons learnt following the 06/07 fires and covers the surrounding district - including Gaffney's Creek and A1 township areas.
