Road Maintenance

Mansfield Shire Council is responsible for upgrading, renewing and
maintaining the local road infrastructure of approximately 200km of sealed road and 600km of unsealed road.
Maintenance activities,
including re-gravelling of unsealed roads, are performed out of our
Lakins Road depot and under contract to local service providers.
Renewal and upgrading particularly of sealed roads surface is performed
under contract with supervision by Engineering staff from the Shire
Office in Mansfield.
The Mansfield-Woods Point Road,
Merton-Euroa Road, Mansfield-Whitfield Road, Mount Buller Road, Midland
Highway, and the Maroondah Highway are main roads now controlled and
maintained by VicRoads. Prior to 1 July 2004 Council maintained a
number of VicRoads main roads on their behalf which are now again
totally under their care and control. If you have any issues with these
roads contact VicRoads on 5761 1888.
Road infrastructure
includes as an example the bridges, road pavements and seal (if
present), signage and footpaths in both the urban and rural areas.
Council has or is developing maintenance systems and programs to
undertake and identify maintenance and capital upgrades/renewals for
all these assets. There are approximately 45 bridges which require
maintenance or replacements and Council has developed and is refining
an upgrade program to assess and prioritise upgrading and replacements
works.
