Asset Protection Permit
Introduction
An Asset Protection Permit is an additional step in the building approval process for those undertaking any building works to provide security and assurance to not interfere with Council assets as outlined in the Road Management Act 2004. Council’s assets include but are not limited to pathways, road pavement, kerb & channel, signs, stormwater pits and open drains.


Getting a Permit
  1. Obtain an Asset Protection Permit Application form from our website or Council office.
  2. Include any other supplementary information as required to support the permit application.
  3. Forward a copy of the completed and signed application to council*
  4. Councils Engineering department will review application (inspection maybe required).
  5. Notification to the applicant of successful application.
  6. A copy of the Council approved permit will be forwarded to the applicant.
  7. Inspections by Council’s Engineering Department for works, including final inspection upon completion for return of security deposit
Fees
There is a non-refundable of $61.10 for the application, and a refundable security deposit of $500.00 payable when applying for an Asset Protection Permit.

If at any time during the building works damage is caused which is greater than of the amount of the security deposit, the builder and/or owner must pay to Council the amount of the money of the shortfall, being the difference between the cost of the repair work and the amount of the security deposit.

As a result of an inspection carried out by an authorised officer and they consider that the building works has not damaged any Council infrastructure assets, the Council must release the security deposit.
