| What is town planning? | | Town Planning focuses on the use, development and protection of land. Urban and rural planning is vital for the orderly expansion of new housing and industry into areas best suited for them. Productive agricultural land needs to be protected, as does the rural atmosphere provided for residents of the Shire.
Under the Planning and Environment Act 1987, Council is responsible for ensuring that land is used and developed in an environmentally, economically and socially responsible manner, to provide a sustainable future for the community.
