| Adopted by Council 18 April 2006 | | The Mansfield Shire Council Recreation and Leisure Strategy was developed through a planning process that used techniques to seek the community’s views and opinions on issues concerning recreation and leisure in the Mansfield community. A copy of the Strategy can be downloaded below.
The Mansfield Shire Council successfully applied to the Department for Victoria Communities for Community Support Grants (Planning) funds in 2005 to develop the Strategy.
The project was to provide a ten year Recreation and Leisure Strategy for Mansfield.
The Strategy examined recreation and leisure in the Mansfield urban and smaller communities to identify strengths and weaknesses and actions that address identified issues.
The development of the Recreation and Leisure Strategy involved the following key stakeholders (an indicative list only):
- Mansfield District community recreation and sports clubs
- Victorian Department of Sport & Recreation
- Primary, secondary & tertiary schools
- Mansfield Community Centre
- Leisure clubs
- The Mansfield Shire Recreational Advisory Committee
- General users of council recreation and leisure facilities
- Commercial leisure facility operators
The executive summary states that the consultation processes undertaken for the study revealed unmet needs for improved sports and recreation facilities and programs in three categories:
- Outdoor playing fields
- Indoor sports facilities
- Year-round aquatic facilities
Strategies to address the unmet community needs identified are outlined in the form of recommendations in the document on page 20. An action plan based on those recommendations is summarised on page 3 with regards to priority, timeframe and actions required.
