Responsible Portfolios: Governance and Organisational Management

Sandie has lived in Mansfield for the past 27 years with his wife, Rae, and they have raised two daughters in the area.

He retired from the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Resort Management Board in 2005, a position he held for 23 years. He was Mayor of the Shire for the 2006/07 year.

While Sandie was elected by the ratepayers of the Mansfield Ward he is committed to representing the interests of ratepayers right across the Shire.

Sandie has a keen interest in the economic development of the Shire, the promotion of the area as a tourist destination and the protection of the area's environment. He sees it as being of pivotal importance to the Shire's future and the Shire's future generations that it is seen as being "clean and green".

He sees responsible financial management, rebuilding the Shire’s asset base (roads, bridges etc.) and the planning for the provision of infrastructure and services for the ageing population as being critical to the success of this Council.

This is Tom's 5th term as a Councillor, and he had served 3 terms as Mayor. Tom brings a depth of experience to Mansfield Shire, particularly in planning, community fire protection and shire rate differentials.

Tom has lived in the Mansfield Shire for 30 years and his four children were educated in Mansfield. Tom is a prime lamb and beef producer. He sees sustainable land management practices and preservation of Mansfield's unique rural environment as vitally important for the future of the Mansfield district.

Tom has a keen interest in emergency management and has 35 years involvement with the CFA.

Tom believes funding for rural councils must have less reliance on rates and therefore shires need an alternative income stream, either from the State or Federal Government.
